The Parenting Plan—a Tennessee imperative

When parents divorce, their child may be the one to suffer the most.  The state of Tennessee makes it clear that the child is the most important person in the family.  If children are involved in your divorce, Tennessee law stipulates you must provide a written parenting plan.  Using parenting plan forms, you outline what you will do for your children:

  • Where the children will live
  • When the children will stay with each parent
    • Holidays
    • Vacations
    • Birthdays
  • Amount of child support to be paid
  • How you will make decisions about the children's welfare
    • Medical care
    • Education
    • Religion
  • How you will settle any future disagreements about the children

As part of this plan, both you and your spouse must go to a class on children and divorce.  We can help you find a class that is convenient for you. Classes take place several times a month in your local area.

At Richter & Rasberry, we work with you to formulate your parenting plan.  Once approved, the parenting plan becomes an order of the court.
